Publisher's Description of XAMPP for Windows
" An easy to install Apache web-server package containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. "
- From Kai 'Oswald' Seidler
Many people know from their own experience that it's not easy to install an Apache web server and it gets harder if you want to add MySQL, PHP and Perl.
XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use - just download, extract and start.
At the moment there are four XAMPP distributions:
* XAMPP for Linux
* XAMPP for Windows
* XAMPP for Mac OS X
* XAMPP for Solaris
This version of XAMPP for Windows contains:
* Apache 2.2.14 (IPv6 enabled)
* MySQL 5.1.41 + PBXT engine
* PHP 5.3.1 + PEAR
* Perl 5.10.1
* mod_php
* mod_perl
* mod_ssl
* OpenSSL 0.9.8
* phpMyAdmin 3.2.4
* Webalizer
* Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 4.72 and NetWare Systems v3.32
* Ming
* JpGraph
* FileZilla FTP Server 0.9.33
* mcrypt
* eAccelerator
* SQLite
* WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.
Easy installation and deinstallation
To install XAMPP you only need to download and extract XAMPP, that's all. There are no changes to the Windows registry if you use the Windows ZIP archive version of XAMPP and it's not necessary to edit any configuration files. It couldn't be easier!
Vista Note:
Because of missing or insufficient write permissions in "C:\Program Files", we recommend to use alternate folder for XAMPP ("C:\xampp" or "C:\meinverzeichnis\xampp").
Important:
XAMPP is not meant for production use but only for developers in a development environment. XAMPP is configured is to be as open as possible and to allow the web developer anything he/she wants. For development environments this is great but in a production environment it could be fatal.
Here a list of missing security in XAMPP:
* The MySQL administrator (root) has no password.
* The MySQL daemon is accessible via network.
* phpMyAdmin is accessible via network.
* The XAMPP demopage is accessible via network.
* The default users of Mercury and FileZilla are known.
